Expelled

Today I left CERN. I can never stay long in paradise - I always get expelled for some ridiculous reason. This time it might be because
  • I lost hope that the LHC would be running soon
  • I spilled coffee on Witten the other day at CosmoCoffee
  • I discovered that John Ellis' beard is fake
  • My contract has expired
Whatever the reason, Luis (depicted above as an archangel) has told me to leave. This means I cannot run a blog from CERN anymore. From now on this is a no-longer-from-CERN blog. Reports from CERN seminars will give place general broodings about particle physics. However, CERN-gossiping should continue thanks to the spy network I established in the last years.

I suppose blogging will be perturbed until I settle in a new vacuum.

  1. Good luck in the hunt for a new position. Keep in mind there are three parts to the Paradise lost saga.

  3. Sorry to hear that you are returning to the ranks of amateurs. Of course this is not necessarily a one way trip; you've been here before. Everyone starts out as a lover of the subject.

And amateurs regularly return to the fold. Which reminds me, what's Marni Sheppeard up to now? A few weeks ago she was waiting tables and writing blog posts on physics...

  4. Arggh get over it you big wuss, while I'm teaching legendre tranformations to 85 british first year undergraduates who burst into tears at the sight of integration by parts you'll be running around the states somewhere doing research. My heart bleeds....

  6. Sorry to hear you have left paradise. As Carl points out, I am about to leave one kind of paradise for another. Just in time, because the current 'paradise' appears to be lost.

Er, is there a reason that Adam and Eve are so hairless? I don't know much about art history.

  7. Kea, I guess hair just didn't fit the classical notion of beauty. Have you ever seen a hairy greek statue???

  8. On the seventh day god looked on creation and it was good and he rested. On the eighth day she invented veet.

  9. LOL, anon! Actually, I believe the Greek statues were typically painted, and the hair might have been painted on.

  10. Maybe Paradize is not the most inspiring place to do science. Adrenalin secretion is important for doing science and some place between CERN and the gloomy outskirts of civilization, where the crackpots live could be better place.

I hope that my past uncensored activities in Resonaance were not the cause of the expulsion.

  11. You people worry about the hair, I wonder how Adam managed to get humanity started with his microscopic... err... equipment.

  12. Carl and Matti don't worry, Jester will never "return to the ranks of amateurs" (!?) and your spamming on his blog has nothing to do with his departure. The correct answer is #4 (his job at CERN expired) and he's just moving on to a new job in the US. Jester, good luck for your relocation and say hi to T.S. when you meet him. Cheers,

  13. Hi Jester!

Does the picture mean that all your readers actually know your first name? ;-)

Rutgers is sometimes fun, four years of my life. Keep on smiling.
